Reading Adventures for Teens: Rules by Cynthia Lord

Reading Adventures for Teens: Rules by Cynthia Lord In-Person

Join us for these in-depth discussions of Rules by Cynthia Lord with a focus on mental health implications. Grades 6-12 or age equivalent.  Pick up your free copy of this book at the front desk while supplies last.

Twelve-year-old Catherine just wants a normal life. Which is near impossible when you have a brother with autism and a family that revolves around his disability. She's spent years trying to teach David the rules-from "a peach is not a funny-looking apple" to "keep your pants on in public"-in order to stop his embarrassing behaviors. But the summer Catherine meets Jason, a paraplegic boy, and Kristi, the next-door friend she's always wished for, it's her own shocking behavior that turns everything upside down and forces her to ask: What is normal?

Brianne Schmidt will be facilitating the discussion. She was an elementary teacher for four years before deciding emotional wellbeing of children was where her heart was. She attended Indiana Wesleyan University to obtain an MA in school counseling. She has been a school counselor for two years and is currently working through a program to become a licensed mental health counselor.
